Tangerine Walk-In Counselling:
Is your child feeling sad, worried or angry? Or is your child finding it hard to cope with stress, control his/her behaviour, or get along with others? Would your child and/or family like to talk with a counsellor without making an appointment? Then Tangerine Walk-In Counselling may be able to help you. The service is free of charge.
Can your child use our program?
Your child can use Tangerine Walk-In Counselling if:
* your child is under 18 years old, and
* your child lives in the Region of Peel.
If you require service in French, your child can also live in the Region of Halton. Youth ages 12 to 17 can come to Tangerine Walk-In Counselling without a parent or guardian.
What do we do?
Tangerine Walk-In Counselling is offered by 3 community partners: Associated Youth Services of Peel, Peel Children’s Centre, and Rapport Youth & Family Services. Service at each location is on a different day of the week. A session lasts about 2 hours and the latest time to start a session is 6:00 p.m. You can attend as many sessions as you need.
A counsellor will ask you and/or your child about the problem you want to discuss and any ways you have tried to solve the problem. Then the counsellor will help you and/or your child identify his/her strengths and the resources that are available to support your child and family. The counsellor will help you and/or your child figure out possible solutions to the problem. Later in the session, the counsellor will ask another counsellor for additional suggestions. The counsellors will share their ideas and provide a written summary to take home.
