The Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C)
The Arson Prevention Program for Children (TAPP-C) is an out-client service that provides fire-safety interventions for children prone to generating fires.
This program is a collaboration between Peel Children's Centre and the Fire and Emergency Services of Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon.
Who is eligible to use our program?
The TAPP-C program is for children under 18 years of age who live in the Region of Peel and have been involved with setting fires. These children and their families must also be willing to participate in an assessment of risk factors. The purpose of the assessment is to identify if there are mental health issues contributing to the child's tendency to set fires.
What do we do?
Our program comprises these three parts:
We also make clinical recommendations for the child’s ongoing treatment. At Peel Children's Centre, we believe that early intervention is the first step towards effective mental health treatment.
