Mental Health Services Are Available to Help You and Your Family During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Peel Region – The COVID-19 pandemic is all over the news and social media, and our lives have been disrupted in many ways. We know these are very difficult times for all children, youth and families, particularly those who are dealing with mental health challenges like anxiety and depression.

With schools, offices and many other public spaces currently closed in order to “flatten the curve” and keep our communities safe, it can be difficult to know where to turn for help. During the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health services for children, youth and families continue to be available, and help is only a click or a phone call away.

24/7 Crisis Support for Children, Youth and Families

If your child or family is in crisis, our staff are ready to help. Peel Children’s Centre’s free and confidential Crisis Response Service for children, youth and families is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

When you call 416-410-8615, you will be connected to a crisis worker who will talk to you about what you’re going through and help you make a plan. We can also help you get connected to ongoing supports.

If you or your child are over 18, you can call CMHA Peel Dufferin’s 24/7 crisis line for help at 905-278-9036.

What is a mental health crisis?

You or your child may be experiencing a mental health crisis if you are struggling with thoughts of hopelessness and/or suicide; self-harm; stress; anxiety; depression; substance misuse; panic attacks; and/or family conflict.

NEW: Tangerine Walk-In Counselling Now Offers Phone Sessions

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all Tangerine Walk-In Counselling locations have been closed until further notice, but we are now offering 45-minute telephone-based brief consultations on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Sessions are available between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., every hour, on the hour. You can visit to request an appointment or call 905-795-3530 to leave a message and we will call you back.

How can a Tangerine telephone session help?

People come to Tangerine for help for many reasons. You might be looking for strategies that can be used to help you cope with a stressful situation, including COVID-19, or you might simply want to be listened to with understanding and without judgment.

Whatever your concern, a Tangerine telephone-based brief consultation will help you recognize and build on your own strengths and equip you with resources that can help you after the session is over. In many cases, one session is all our clients need in order to feel better about their situation and take the necessary steps toward positive change, but of course, you can always request another session if you want more help.

What can you expect when you call

When you call, an Access and Intake Specialist will listen to you, ask questions and help you find the right program or service for you or your child’s unique needs. This service is free, confidential and interpretation in languages other than English is also available.
