JESSICA ROSELLI
Winner of PCC’s Ron Lenyk Volunteer of the Year Award

Mississauga – Peel Children’s Centre (PCC) will present its Ron Lenyk Volunteer of the Year Award to Sergeant Jessica Roselli of Peel Regional Police, 22 Division, on October 23 at PCC’s annual Celebration Day that recognizes the achievements of its staff and volunteers.

Currently a Sergeant in the Neighbourhood Policing Unit who is in her 20th year of policing, Jessica previously spent more than 4 years in the Special Victims Unit, where she came to know PCC’s Child Witness program. PCC’s commitment to helping children at risk tugged at Jessica’s heart and she knew that PCC was an organization she wanted to support.

“Being a police officer is about more than fighting crime,” Jessica says. It’s about giving back, too.”

Jessica came out to support PCC’s annual Cosmic Bowl fundraiser and then offered to be a Volunteer Mentor, supporting an eight-year-old girl who is a PCC client. Jessica went on to co-chair Peel Regional Police’s Mother’s Day Brunch fundraiser, which donated its full proceeds to PCC.

“Jessica goes above and beyond to be a strong advocate for mental health. We are very happy to take this opportunity to honour and celebrate her,” says Linda Buchanan, PCC’s Coordinator of Volunteer Services. “Thank you, Jessica, from the bottom of our hearts for the tireless hours and dedication you continue to give.”

Ron Lenyk, who will join Buchanan to present the award, says, “Jessica, you are a true champion, inspiring other officers and community members to support child and youth mental health. On behalf of the Peel community, thank you for your advocacy and leadership.”

“Jessica is a great example of how our volunteers make a difference in the lives of the children, youth and families who count on PCC’s mental health services,” says Humphrey Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer. “Volunteers like Jessica are the heart of our agency.”

Each year, more than 120 volunteers support PCC as mentors, tutors, respite providers, childcare workers, drivers, fundraising assistants and members of PCC’s Board of Directors.

Peel Children’s Centre dedicated its volunteer award to Ron Lenyk in 2008 in recognition of Ron’s leadership as a volunteer, philanthropist and advocate. Currently Chief Executive Officer of Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre, Ron was formerly Publisher of The Mississauga News. He is a generous supporter of numerous health, social service, sports and cultural charities.
