Mississauga – At its Annual Day of Celebration on October 8th, Peel Children’s Centre (PCC) presented its Ron Lenyk Volunteer of the Year Award to Brampton resident Donna Pasqua.
A volunteer in PCC’s Driver Program for the past 5 years, Pasqua ensures that children and families who face transportation barriers get to their appointments and programs at PCC.
“There is no time too early for Donna to begin her day, and there is no day that she will not drive,” said Linda Buchanan, Coordinator of Volunteer Services at PCC. “Donna drives an average of 5,000 kilometres each month in all kinds of weather.”
Pasqua makes time to volunteer in her already busy life as a mother of two, a real estate agent and a caregiver to relatives with serious health challenges.
“This past year, two of Donna’s family members had serious illnesses that required her to transport them to doctors’ appointments, tests and treatments,” Buchanan said. “Still, Donna found time for the kids at PCC.”
At the award presentation, Buchanan said, “Donna, I don’t know where we would be without you. Your contribution to PCC and our families goes far above and beyond. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
Ron Lenyk, who joined Buchanan to present the award, said, “Donna, you have allowed many, many kids and families to get to the help they need. On behalf of the Peel community, thank you for the total commitment you continue to give.”
“Each year, more than 120 specialized volunteers support the children, youth and families at Peel Children’s Centre,” said Humphrey Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer. “Our volunteers are mentors, tutors, respite providers, childcare workers, drivers, fundraising assistants and members of our Board of Directors. Volunteers are truly the heart of our agency.”
Peel Children’s Centre dedicated its volunteer award to Ron Lenyk in 2008 in recognition of Ron’s leadership as a volunteer, philanthropist and advocate. Currently Chief Executive Officer of Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre, Ron was formerly Publisher of The Mississauga News. He is a generous supporter of numerous health, social service, sports and cultural charities.
