Peel Children's Centre is an accredited children’s mental health centre that provides a continuum of high quality mental health services for children, youth and their families who are experiencing or may experience serious emotional difficulties. Our services are provided in a dynamic, client-centered environment that values flexibility, accessibility and responsiveness.

Nexus Youth Services is a fully accredited, community based, counselling and resource service for young people ages 14 to 24 who live in the Region of Peel and who are feeling isolated from support systems. Nexus provides individual counselling services in both an office-based and community setting. In all aspects of service delivery, Nexus is committed to engaging youth and helping them to achieve their goals.

The Development Coordinator is an integral member of the Fund Development Team which is responsible for the development and implementation of the organization’s Annual Development Plan, employing efficient and effective strategies/tactics to achieve established fundraising targets. Working within a best practices framework and with knowledge of the Agencies’ strategic directions, the Development Coordinator understands how the department’s activities will contribute to overall corporate positioning. The ideal incumbent is an enthusiastic, self-motivated and skilled professional experienced in working with internal and external stakeholders to project a positive image for the organization(s) they represent, actively foster community awareness and support, and leverage opportunities for giving.

Specific Tasks/Key Responsibilities
  • Research and identify opportunities to enhance the development of the Annual Development Plan.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of Fund Development strategies.
  • Develop, plan and execute signature events and related activities to increase sponsorship, participants and event revenue.
  • Research, develop and submit funding proposals and grants to sustain renewable sources of revenue and to secure new sources of revenue.
  • Coordinate effective direct mail strategies and donor communications.
  • Implement best practices and support the growth of peer-to-peer, community and third party events.
  • Identify and develop strategic key volunteers to optimize successful events and campaigns.
  • Coordinate and execute the development and implementation of various fundraising projects.
  • Identify opportunities and solicit community and corporate groups for acquiring sponsorship, in-kind donations, and community events.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with existing donors, prospects and stakeholders.
  • Develop communication and promotion materials for Fund Development.
  • Represent the Agencies in public forums relating to fund development and attend functions held in the community in order to establish network and engage prospects.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the Fund Development database, including timely donor and sponsor management.
  • Participate in reconciliation of both Finance and Development’s donation records.
  • Oversee charitable gaming activities.
  • Produce quarterly reports and summarize performance relative to targets, including an action plan to address anticipated shortfalls.

Knowledge, Education and Experience
  • A minimum of three years experience successfully implementing a fundraising program combined with a three year college diploma in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and monitoring annual giving plans including activities such as grant/proposal writing, special events, direct mail and monthly giving campaigns, sponsorship and stewardship.
  • Ability to professionally deliver presentations, nurture media contacts and other related opportunities for profile and successfully represent an organization publicly at agency development events.
  • Experience developing and implementing successful annual development plans and activities, juggling multiple priorities, pressures and timelines.
  • Experience working with senior colleagues, Board members, community volunteers and existing/ prospective donors.
  • Strong writing, organizational, time management and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
  • Applied knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and guidelines.
  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Specialized knowledge of donor database systems, preferably eTapestry.
  • Excellent computer literacy including Internet and Microsoft Office.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a reliable vehicle.
  • Experience supporting major gift and planned giving campaigns would be considered an asset.

The annual salary range for this position is from $51,562 to $60,305 based on a 37.5 hour work week. As a full-time employee you would be eligible for Peel Children’s Centre’s benefits and pension plans a well as generous vacation and personal leave time.
