Peel Children’s Centre is looking for a committed and passionate Child & Youth Worker with an interest in mental health to provide services to children and youth in residential environments in the Caledon area.
Reporting to the Supervisor – Millieu programs, the Child and Youth Worker (Float) will play an important role in the implementation of treatment plans while ensuring the safety and well-being of all clients. The incumbent will require familiarity with trauma informed care and attachment.

The Child and Youth Worker (Float) will provide support primarily to Peel Children’s Centre’s Caledon South and Caledon North Residential sites. While this position is primarily located in Caledon, there is possibility of occasional shifts in the Brampton area, with possibility of occasional shifts in Day Treatment Classrooms.
Shifts will be assigned by the Supervisor and will include day shifts from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM and evening shifts from 3:00 PM to 11:00 PM at any of the organization 3 residential programs, primarily in Caledon and occasionally in Brampton. As the Residential Programs operate 24 hours a day 7 days a week, shifts may be scheduled during the week or on weekends.

This is a 12 month contract position until March 31, 2021 with an annual salary of $45,115.
The compensation package also includes an additional 4% of base salary in lieu of vacation and 4% of base salary to compensate for benefits and 3.5 days of paid personal leave time.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide flexible shift coverage for Residential Programs and Day treatment Programs , as assigned by supervisor.
  • Respond to and support client’s unique mental health needs, within a therapeutic environment, in the context of a multi-disciplinary treatment plan;
  • Use tact and judgment in a respectful manner and have the ability to apply these skills in a variety of situations;
  • Effectively follow clinical direction while maintaining the integrity of the treatment model for clients in keeping with the organization’s Mission Statement, values, clinical and management philosophies and Service Plan.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to client needs through a strength based approach;
  • Transportation of clients as needed
  • Utilize high levels of oral and written communication skills, time management and critical thinking skills with a strong understanding of role boundaries;
  • Assess, manage, design, and implement a crisis plan to ensure safety within the milieu setting

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Child and Youth Worker diploma or a three-year Community College diploma in a related field with a minimum of one year related experience working with children and youth, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and eligibility for membership in the appropriate professional association.
  • Ability to effectively assess, manage, design, and implement a crisis plan to ensure safety within the milieu setting.
  • Proven understanding of a milieu environment and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Thorough knowledge of mental health issues and the ability to apply behavioral skills.
  • Must Have a valid Ontario Driver’s license (Full G Class), relevant insurance and use of a vehicle with a comfort in driving clients throughout the Caledon and Peel region (surrounding areas) when needed.
  • Must Have Valid First Aid Certificate and UMAB certification.
  • Positive, flexible and adaptable attitude with the ability to adapt to various shifts and settings.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to float between programs as needed.
  • A satisfactory vulnerable sector police records check and pre employment medical screening is required prior to the commencement of employment.
