Peel Children’s Centre is looking for an experienced, enthusiastic, professional Coordinator of their Volunteer Services to coordinate their Volunteer Services and to respond to program needs through creativity and innovation in the development and implementation of an effective volunteer program.

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources and Volunteer services, the incumbent is responsible for the design and successful implementation of a Volunteer Program for Peel Children’s Centre and Nexus Youth Services and to provide effective resources to staff, supervisors, managers and directors and to support the individuals who make volunteerism a reality at Peel Children’s Centre and Nexus Youth Services.

Peel Children's Centre is an accredited children’s mental health centre that provides a continuum of high quality mental health services to enrich the lives of children, youth and their families who are experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioral challenges. Nexus Youth Services creates opportunities for engagement to create a community that values the diverse voices of youth and young adults through action, partnership and growth. Our services are provided in a dynamic, client-centred environment that values respect and inclusion, collaboration, learning, innovation and accountability.

Annual Salary Range - $59,237 to $70,932 (5 step range)

Specific Tasks
  • Develop, implement and maintain a planned volunteer program for volunteers at Peel Children’s Centre.
  • Identify program needs and develop a recruitment strategy to meet these requirements.
  • Promote volunteerism and the effective use of volunteers through program development and the effective use of problem solving techniques as well as the assignment of volunteers to specific programs.
  • Act as a resource to front line staff, supervisors, managers and directors regarding the use of volunteers.
  • Design and develop Volunteer position descriptions and program procedures through consultation with Centre staff.
  • Conduct full cycle recruitment for volunteers including posting, interview, screening, references and police checks and assign successful applicants with appropriate assignments, including on boarding and orientation for volunteers.
  • Plan and organize on-going training sessions for volunteers as required.
  • Assist with the preparation of budget forecasts including those for training, expenses, recognition and program development.
  • Prepare and maintain Volunteering with Peel Children’s Centre brochure and other publications as required.
  • Maintain regular communications with volunteers, providing support and encouragement and addressing concerns.
  • Plan and organize annual recognition event, including selecting awards and determining recipients.
  • Maintain liaison between staff and volunteers to evaluate programs, individual performance and promote dialogue between groups.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with volunteers through the use of effective problem solving techniques and manage change of assignments to maintain interest.
  • Maintain volunteer information files, mileage and statistics as per policies and standards.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Volunteer Management Diploma or Certified Volunteer Manager designation with a Diploma in the Human Services field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years directly related experience in a healthcare non-profit organization.
  • Proven ability in planning, implementing and supporting the recruitment and retention of volunteers in the Human Services field with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated experience in the design and development of volunteer programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to program needs for volunteers.
  • Previous experience promoting volunteerism.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mental health issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build ongoing relationships.
  • Strong computer skills including MS- Word, MS- Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
  • Valid G class Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • A satisfactory vulnerable sector police records check and pre-employment medical screening is required prior to the commencement of employment.
